BLU WAV
“HEALING THROUGH SACRED SOUND”
Launched in late-August 2023, BLU WAV is a brand new platform by Estée Blu that focusses on artistic and holistic wellbeing for musicians. It is inspired by the challenges that she has overcome using a range of wellness and intuitive modalities on her journey in the music industry. “Healing through sacred sound” is the mantra and is at the core of this platform and the work it aims do within community. It complements the creative practice and wider outreach that Estée Blu has been doing in schools, universities, charities and corporate settings since 2017.
EMBODYING LIBERATION SERIES
While BLU WAV is open to all Artists, we also host exclusive workshops for Black Artists.
‘The Embodying Liberation Series’ is a community intervention that consists of a series of holistic and artistic wellbeing workshops designed for Black British Musicians, in September 2023. This series is funded by the Creative Impact Research Centre Europe (CIRCE), and is apart of Estée’s CIRCE Fellowship and ongoing research into the mental health, wellbeing and working conditions of Black Artists in Britain.
In October 2021, the Black Lives in Music organisation published the results of the largest survey ever conducted concerning Black British musicians and industry professionals in the UK. The report revealed:
-Three in five (63%) Black music creators have experienced direct/indirect racism in the music industry.
-31% of all Black music creators believe their mental wellbeing has worsened since starting their music career, rising to 42% of Black women.
This study explored models of collective care for Black British Artists. The objective was not only to recognise what their conditions reveal, but to also investigate alternative ways of embedding care into this underserved community. Findings from this study were published on the CIRCE website in November 2023, and the report can be read and downloaded here.
